Patrick Chiasson, M.D., FACS
Board-Certified General Surgeon
Dr. Patrick Chiasson migrated to Tucson from Canada. He received his medical education at McGill University, a Master’s Degree from the Institute for History of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, and his general surgical training at Dalhousie University. He completed his sub-specialty training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of Toronto’s highly-regarded Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery.
He has numerous publications to his credit that address such issues as Minimally Invasive Surgery techniques and outcomes, health policy, and medical ethics and health law. His particular surgical interests include the application of advanced laparoscopic and endoluminal techniques to manage digestive diseases involving the esophagus and stomach including the surgical management of morbid obesity.

Dr. Stephen Burpee is a board-certified and fellowship trained minimally invasive general and bariatric surgeon. After spending five years as a family physician in Ontario, Canada, he embarked on a surgical career. His experience as a family physician has helped him manage the complex medical issues surrounding many of his surgical patients.
He completed his general surgery residency at Lenox Hospital in New York City, while also spending six months at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan learning laparoscopic surgery under the guidance of some of the pioneers in this field. Following his residency, he returned to Toronto, Canada for a two-year fellowship in minimally invasive general surgery. He also spent two months at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center refining his laparoscopic surgery skills. In 2003 when he completed his training, he began practicing at Northwest Medical Center.

Both Dr. Burpee and Dr. Chiasson have a special interest in the surgical treatment of diseases of the foregut (esophagus and stomach) including GERD, hiatal hernia, achalasia, gastroparesis and benign and malignant conditions of the esophagus and stomach. In addition to their focus on digestive diseases, their practice also includes bariatric surgery. Dr. Burpee and Dr. Chiasson are both fellowship-trained in minimally invasive surgery and have numerous publications to their credit.
